ALBUM REVIEW – UNDERSCORES

Now I’d never heard of underscores before this album, but when a review of U randomly popped up on my feed, I was quickly intrigued and decided to give it a listen. The electro-pop record starts off with “Tell Me (U Want It)”, an anthemic dance track with EDM and house influences. The song is loaded with bouncy bass lines and snappy synthesizers that immediately grab your attention and set the mood for the rest of the record. Immediately the intro is followed by “Music”, a track that gets even bouncier and heavier on EDM influence. It’s complex and hyper production easily make it one of the most memorable moments on the album. The next song is “Hollywood Forever”, a track that continues the EDM influences but tones them down and opts for a more accessible and catchy route. The tracks “Do It” and “Bodyfeeling” delve even deeper into this pop appeal with simpler production and catchier tunes.
The majority of the record focuses on the themes of love and connection, ending off with possibly the album’s hookiest track “Wish You Well”. While it is a brief record, absolutely zero tracks feel unfinished or unnecessary. Overall I really loved this album and hope to see what underscores goes on to do in the future.
