SONG REVIEW – NOAH KAHAN

After almost four long years, Noah Kahan is finally dropping another album to follow his commercial success with “Stick Season”. The lead single, “The Great Divide”, is also the record’s title track, released on January 30th. Just off of the first listen, it’s clear that Noah hasn’t decided to take a vastly different sonic direction. The track is louder and more powerful, much like “Northern Attitude” or “Homesick”, but Noah himself has stated that the album will include slower ballads as well.
Noah explores the feeling of being damaging to your partner, and wishing for them to find happiness with someone else. From this we can assume the rest of the record will also center on love and loss, which isn’t surprising considering the rest of his discography. The track also feels very formulated, very much your state of the art modern folk track. It isn’t bad, but isn’t anything particularly innovative or special. I can only hope that the rest of the record will provide some more interesting tracks, which I don’t doubt Noah can do.
